What tools are used to process ceramics?
First we classify according to different processing methods.
Turning of ceramic materials:
Ceramics are typical hard and brittle materials, with high hardness and wear resistance. In addition to easy-cut ceramics, such as general engineering ceramics, only super-hard tool materials (diamonds) can be competent.
For the rough machining process of ceramics, polycrystalline diamond tools are generally selected. Polycrystalline diamond tools are made of artificial diamond particles sintered under high temperature and high pressure. They are not easy to be damaged by impact or vibration, and are suitable for roughing ceramic materials.
For the finishing of ceramic materials, natural single crystal diamond tools are used for micro-cutting (with a small cutting depth and feed). Natural single crystal diamond cutting tools have sharp cutting edges, high hardness, and wear resistance 10 times that of alumina ceramics. The thermal wear during cutting is very small, which can ensure high dimensional accuracy and surface finish of ceramic materials. At the same time, it is also used for other difficult-to-machine parts such as slotting and curved surface contouring.
Ceramic milling:
Good processing surface quality plays an important role in reducing surface defects, improving part strength and assembly accuracy, reducing friction and wear, and prolonging the service life of ceramic parts. At this time, superhard milling cutters have become the best for ceramic parts milling select.
Processing ceramic parts:
For machining ceramic parts, the best tool is a toothless diamond grinding wheel, which contacts the workpiece at the highest speed and the slowest contact speed. The coolant must be supplied before touching the workpiece.
